Veterans History: Personal
On Display in the Main Gallery

The display started with a couple of uniforms and some photos, and we thought that two exhibit cases would be more than sufficient.  Then more items came in, and a few more uniforms, a rifle.  The exhibit came together with the invaluable help of several American Legion members and others in the community.  It now encompasses six exhibit cases and features items from all of the wars of last century and this one.  The one quality that all the objects have in common is that they were worn by, used by, and belong to, people for whom they have become personal, a reminder of past experiences and distant places.

We're working to add a audio/visual component to this exhibit so that visitors can hear and see oral history recordings of local veterans.  We are a repository for recordings created through the National Veterans History Project, which is locally coordinated through U.S. Representative Mike Thompson's Office and the Mendocino College Foundation.  If you're interested in loaning personal items to the exhibit as it evolves in the future, doing oral histories as an interviewer or an interviewee, or assisting with the purchase of digital equipment, please CONTACT US.  Thank you.
